New Members Information

A long-standing community facility

Our Club was established in 1908, shortly after the Australian colonies united to become a nation. It has a history as long as the Sydney Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters.

Lane Cove Tennis Club is an unincorporated association. It has a Constitution that contains the formal rules under which it operates. It is run by a committee of unpaid volunteers who are elected from the membership.  The committee members are identified on a Board in the Clubhouse. Should you have any suggestions, issues or would like to join the committee during your membership with us, we encourage you to contact a committee member.

A few conditions of use

The Club has a lease arrangement with Lane Cove Council that sets out the terms on which the Club may use the 5 tennis courts and the clubhouse located at Central Park, Longueville. Our ability to continue to use the facilities depends on strict compliance with the Lease, and we seek the cooperation of all members in ensuring that we do. We ask you to note:

  1. The Lease allows for play only between specific hours of the day, from early morning to sunset (Mon to Fri:  6:30am to sunset; Sat and Sun 8:30am to sunset).   These hours appear on the fence signage on court 2 near the gate;
  2. Although the courts are bounded mainly by the Longueville Club, Kenneth Street and Central Park, our facilities are in a residential area, and noise complaints by residents have at times been an issue;
  3. In consideration for residents and other Club members’ bad language around the Club or on court is not acceptable;
  4. There are no onerous dress standards, such as an all or predominantly white dress policy – all that is expected is respectable attire and proper tennis shoes that do not damage the courts.

Club operations and sustainability

Financially the Club aims to cover its operating costs and generate a small surplus in order to maintain and improve the clubhouse facilities and the courts for member and community use.

We rely on member subscriptions, fees from tennis coaches and other hirers of our facilities. Our largest costs are lease payments to Council and court maintenance costs. The Club aims to put money away every year in a Court Maintenance Reserve to allow for resurfacing of the courts. The Club has other usual operating costs such as utilities, cleaning, insurance etc.  As with many sporting clubs, there are financial challenges. However, to date, the Club has been able to cope well financially.
