The 2019 Garry Butler Shield was played on Sunday 20 October at Lane Cove. There had been much argy-bargey between the two Presidents – Garry Butler and Helen Ackerman over dates of the challenge and event format. Much was at stake as the Shield has been hanging on a wall at Kooroora for the past 18 months.
The categories this year were:
- Premier Ladies’ doubles
- Premier Men’s doubles
- A Men’s doubles
- Unisex doubles
- Vets doubles
The Premier Men’s and Vets won their courts making the result come down to the Unisex court. It all came down to the last set of the day. Kooroora won by 1 game.
It was great to have new member Daniel Marijanovic and our young brat pack – Zac Matthews, Olivah Tisbury-Brown, Daniel Bridger and Nathaniel Breeze part of Team Lane Cove this year.
The Garry Butler Shield has been going since 2004 and Kooroora has a 8 to 5 lead.
Garry is now in therapy regrouping for 2020. Thanks for everyone who played on the day. A terrific day of tennis and friendship.
