Wimbledon 2018 at the club was held on 1 July. There were 40 players, two playing sessions – a morning and afternoon session, strawberries and cream, Pimms, BBQ and beers.
The format was American mixed over a playing period of two and half hours. The dire hards of Corey Lewis, Ros Martin, Greg Sernack and Sharon Carelton played both sessions. Our young guns of Tom Garrett and Henry McGuinness matched it with the hard hitters – Glenn Knox, Graham Metcalf, and the Whitman brothers.
Warren Welch supervised the BBQ all day, relinquishing playing duties, whilst Corey Lewis and Garry Butler performed Tournament Director duties. And thanks to Karen Matthews for serving the strawberries and cream.
The grass courts were well groomed and did not disappoint with the unexpected bad bounces.
